Formerly known as Espotting, this European-wide service was founded in 2000 and initially provided a significant network of search tools with pay-per-click advertising. However in 2003 it lost coverage of both Yahoo and Ask Jeeves, greatly reducing its significance in the UK market which led to the merger with the larger FindWhat PPC service from the US and a rebranding as Miva. The company now relies on a network of smaller affiliates to display its advertising and is also developing a pay-per-call service.

Strengths

The network this service covers is quite consumer oriented, with a range of popular content sites - this, combined with the ability to add an image to listings, has made it popular with business to consumer advertisers, and in particular, some of the larger online advertising brands.

Weaknesses

Miva do not provide a great deal of data and do not provide conversion (sales or leads) tracking like Google and Yahoo! Search Marketing. Despite this, for large advertisers looking to extend their reach beyond Google, then Miva can prove to be a useful tool.
